Happy 90th Birthday Charles

(Sunday March 20, 2011)

On Sunday Mr. Charles Crecelius celebrated the anniversary of his 90th birthday to cheers and song at the local Grange building in this town. Affectionately referred to as “Uncle Charles” by many town folk, he is well known for his extended tenure as this community's Chamber of Commerce president. His term as chamber president rivals the 16 years of volunteer service performed as president of the National Health Federation when he was a youthful red-haired dynamo.

After the Fruit Jar Pickers band performed its rendition of the “Happy Birthday” and “The Old Gray Mare” songs, tunes received by Charles in good spirit and much appreciation, a large crowd of well wishers shared cake in the dining room during the band's break from playing music. The cake, “baked from scratch” the night before by the eldest living original member of the town's Grange, Lucille McCrea, donned two lighted candles — numbers 9 and 0, respectively.
