A Purr-fect Tale...

Meet Mel Jacque Cousteau, the cat. Doug named him after his grandfather, because he's so tough and ornery. During his short life he's survived being run over, shot at, jail and a political plot to kill him.

He and his sister Guinevere grew up with Bear, the dog. Bear and Mel sleep together and love to wrestle, much to Lady Guinevere's disdain. Mel walks with a limp after being shot for hunting birds in a neighbor's yard. Being run over by a car didn't help him either.

Bear likes to fetch the family newspaper. There was a time when the neighborhood bullies chased poor Mel every time he dared to venture outside. Then Bear volunteered to chase them away, with Mel boldly backing him up.

One day Mel was seen playing with a raccoon. Word got out about his questionable association and animal control showed up at Mel's doorstep demanding that he be jailed and maybe put to death for rabies.  Mistress Jamie disagreed, and phoned the Sheriff, who agreed that Mel's friendship with the masked bandit didn't warrant corporal punishment. The disgruntled animal control officer left in a huff.

Despite his adventures and notoriety, Mel prefers the simple life...like being petted and having his tummy scratched...

Isn't that purr-fect?
